Through a good brunch, conversation and inspirational speech, University alumna Cynthea Corfah hopes to further fellowship among local creatives in Baton Rouge.
With her event this Saturday, Brunch for the Soul, Corfah aims to inspire women to pursue the goals in their lives, whatever they may be.
Corfah, 22, has wanted to host an event for months, and the timing after her graduation from LSU in the spring felt right, she said.
“I like to talk from the heart,” Corfah said. “Right now, I’m starting to do a lot of lifestyle. The older I’m getting, I’d rather talk down to earth and be real with my readers.”
Corfah owns her social media and digital platform, Laced in Cyn. With her blog posts, Corfah aims to talk to her followers like they’re her best friends, she said. Her posts are consistently guided toward doing yoga, conducting meditation and reading self-help books for a niche audience, she said.
Corfah originally started her website and personal brand as a hobby and creative outlet — with college, it was another way to write and have her voice heard, she said.
Corfah also hopes to eventually become a household name for young girls looking for a brand to trust, or figure to look up to, she said.
“I want something for girls to use for style, life and wellness … something for young women to go to when they need inspiration,” Corfah said.
The creative scene in Baton Rouge is expanding, Corfah said. After she interviewed several local creatives while she worked at 225 Magazine, she realized how she identified with those who fell into her theme and decided to brand herself from it.
Hosted at her private downtown residence, Corfah’s brunch event will feature a brunch buffet, guest speaker and take away from the event, she said.
Guest speaker Ashley O’Neill is the definition of a girl boss, Corfah said. O’Neill is another University alumna — while she studied graphic design, she is now a brand ambassador, marketing strategist and creative director based in New Orleans.
“She put that fire under me, so I know she can put that fire under other women,” Corfah said.
With events in the future, Corfah aims to highlight locally-based artists, makers and people trying to make a difference in the burgeoning Baton Rouge creative scene, she said.
Corfah will host her next event in early to mid-December, she said.
