On October 24, the death dome turned into an ocean.
The Louisiana Sea Grant College Program hosted the 20th Annual Ocean Commotion at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
Over 2,500 Baton Rouge area students between kindergarten and eighth grade, teachers and chaperones came to LSU to learn about Louisiana’s coast and the sea.
Around 70 exhibitors brought aquatic animals, plants and minerals to teach the children. Many exhibitors are LSU researchers themselves. Dianne Lindstedt, Education Coordinator for Louisiana Sea Grant, says, “the event is a great opportunity for students to have fun while learning about Louisiana’s coastal environment.”
“Ocean Commotion is to get kindergarten through eighth grade students interested in ocean sciences and all other kinds of sciences. So it’s a way to have a fun event, places where they can touch and feel things, they can ask questions, play games, or do anything that will give them some information, especially about our state,” said Lindstedt.
Let’s hope those tigers enjoyed their journey to the ocean and beyond.
