LSU volleyball (11-4, 2-2 SEC) will return to home to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs (9-10, 0-4 SEC) Friday night. This game will be the first of a back-to-back home-stand this weekend for the Tigers.
LSU will look to rebound from its loss on the road to No. 1 Florida.
Senior outside hitter Gina Tillis had 10 kills and 11 digs in the effort, but the Tigers fell in straight sets to the Gators.
The Tigers made quick work of the Bulldogs in their sole meeting last year, defeating Mississippi State in straight sets.
Through 15 games, LSU has faced some of the Southeastern Conference’s stiffest competition such as Kentucky and No. 1 Florida. With this experience behind them, the Tigers will look to build on that and use it to their advantage.
“The confidence level we have in terms of how we competed against the top tier teams of the league is high,” coach Fran Flory said. “We’ve gained some confidence knowing we’re awfully close to being successful and we’re excited about our upcoming opponents.”
Controlling the pace and flow of the game has been a point of emphasis for Flory’s squad heading into the match. Dictating the flow of the game has shown to be the outlying dynamic that has allowed the Tigers to have success thus far in 2017.
“The first thing we need to focus on is remaining aggressive and maintaining our tempo and rhythm on our side of the net,” Flory said. “I think the last few matches have shown us that when we are in rhythm and in tempo, our offense can be successful against those teams we compete against.”
The action will begin on Friday at 6 p.m. in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
