The environment on the parade grounds was completely shifted at the last home game vs. Syracuse. Following the death of freshman, Max Gruver all Greek activities were shut down by President F. King Alexander LSU Greeks were not allowed to tailgate together on the parade grounds like traditional.
The environment was described as family friendly.Children were playing outside and you could see straight through the open field virtually seeing every single person there.
Lauren Wilson says, “Last year a police officer held a Porta Potty open because I was so drunk… like it was never a question of if I was of age or not.”
Wilson and Sarah Grego were two of many who were carded by undercover police while holding beers around the student union. The two have always took part in the tailgating craze on the parade grounds and they say it just isn’t the same anymore.
Wilson and Grego says, “ It irritated me that this is the time that it happened… They should’ve started this…This shouldn’t be something new because the passing of that young boy.”
The letter sent out to the LSU Greek community informed students that amongst the activities reinstated Sunday, September 24th tailgating would be allowed on the parade grounds however, with guidelines set in place to insure the safety and security of students.
Wilson and Grego hope that LSU continues to be active in it’s efforts to stop underage drinking.
Greeks will be allowed to tailgate on the parade grounds starting September 30th at our Homecoming Game/ Parent’s weekend against Troy.
