Major Bart Thompson was named Acting Chief of LSUPD Wednesday morning according to LSU Media Relations Director Ernie Ballard. 
LSU Vice President for Finance and Administration/CFO Dan Layzell said the following about Thompson in an email to LSUPD staff:
“Major Thompson stepped up in June and has provided steady and strong leadership for the department over the past four months. I have particularly appreciated the proactive steps he has taken during this period to build upon the strengths of the department and its relationship with the University community, including initiating the process of leading LSUPD through [The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies] accreditation over the next couple of years.”
