Fans should not expect a change in quarter back position on Saturday night between Fr. Myles Brennan and Sr. Danny Etling. Etling will remain as the starting quarterback and Myles will come in for more experience.
“I plan on playing Myles again in an opportune situation where the game is still on the line. I feel that we should put him in and give us some game time experience” Coach Orgeron said.
The Tigers remember what happened the last two times they faced Troy in 2004 and 2008 and both times were a close call but the Tigers came out with a win.
“This is an opponent that they respect. They’re very well informed in what they’ve (Troy) has done here in Tiger Stadium before. Our guys will be ready to play” Orgeron said.
Against Mississippi State the Tigers had nine penalties and against Syracuse they had three but Orgeron wants a clean game come Troy.
“You are going to have some penalties in some games but we don’t want many penalties. We want to be able to be 50 for 50 on first down and be able to run play action, throw the football and get back to running football, running the football the way the Tigers know how to run it” Oregron said.
Oregron wants his players to be physical, play great defense, and stop giving up big plays.
“Be physical at the point of attack, play great defense for four quarters not for two quarters. Eliminate the big play, we have given up too many big plays, we have too many busts on defense, too many high discipline deals on secondary. Too many containment problems with the outside linebackers,” Oregron said. “On the edge, force the ball to the side, tackle very well. We haven’t gotten anything out of a kickoff return gain yet, we haven’t gotten the chance to get a big return. But we missed a block and we want to be very efficient in our kicking game.”
Oregron has his team focusing on one game at and not SEC play.
“This is not about getting ready for SEC play, this is about beating Troy. We just think about one game at a time,” Orgeron said.
When asked about Darrius Guice’s tweets about the recent events in the NFL, Orgeron says that the team is focused on this weekend.
“I am not aware of anything but let me say this; we live in a great country, our focus is on Troy and that is how I am going to leave it,” Orgeron said. “We discuss social media, we haven’t discussed that topic.”
The Tigers will face Troy for a third time in Tiger Stadium on Saturday. The match up will be televised on ESPNU at 6p.m. EST.
