The news of Maxwell Gruver’s death came as a shock to the University community, but it is not the first time a fraternity pledge died during Greek activities.
Just more than 20 years ago, LSU Sigma Alpha Epsilon pledge Benjamin Wynne died after bid night celebrations. In the months that followed, the University launched investigations and suspended SAE’s activities, but there have been numerous hazing and alcohol abuse allegations against fraternities in the decades since.
