Head Coach Ed Orgeron announced in a press conference on Thursday that sophomore Jack Gonsoulin will be the starting kicker for the Tigers after beating out freshman Connor Culp.
The kicking team had a rough game against Chattanooga after Gonsoulin missed two field goals of his four attempted.
“It’s not about the crowd noise, it’s about us,” said Orgeron, when asked about Mississippi State’s cowbells. “Every team in the SEC has a little tradition. It’s just something we’ve got to get used to.”
Coach Orgeron also announced that Defensive End Rashard Lawrence will not be playing in the game against Mississippi State this weekend.
LSU will play the Bulldogs in Starkville on Saturday, September 16. The game will be broadcast on ESPN at 6 p.m.
