The University announced Friday afternoon LSU President F. King Alexander has created a Task Force on Greek Life to examine the culture of Greek Life at the University. This task force comes two weeks after the death of Phi Delta Theta pledge Maxwell Gruver and in the midst of a partial suspension on Greek Life across campus.
The task force will examine major aspects of Greek Life, including overall University governance and oversight of Greek organizations; current practices regarding the internal governance and accountability of Greek organizations by campus councils, chapter advisors, alumni and chapter house corporations; current practices surrounding recruitment and education of Greek organization members; current policies and practices surrounding social, educational and other activities engaged both in by both LSU Greek organizations and other student organizations and other aspects of Greek Life identified by the task force.
LSU Foundation Board of Directors member Rob Stuart will serve as chair of the task force. Other members include LSU Executive Vice President and CFO Dan Layzell, LSU Student Government president Jason Badeaux, LSU Faculty Senate president Kenneth McMillin, LSU Dean of Students Mari Fuentes-Martin, LSU Athletics Department representative Verge Ausberry, Interfraternity Council president Mason Tusa, National Panhellinic Council president Anesha Pink, Panhellinic Council president Madison Hopper, LSU Residence Hall Association president Camille Flint and Kappa Sigma House Corporation representative BJ Billeaudeau.
The Task Force was announced with a statement from Alexander.
“Maxwell Gruver’s death was a tragedy not only for his family, but for the entire LSU community,” Alexander said in the statement. “The Task Force will look deeply into our Greek community, the University structures and policies that support it and the strengths and weaknesses that define it.”
