The national Phi Delta Theta organization has removed the charter from the Beta Chapter at LSU.
The organization suspended operations based on the preliminary findings of the investigation into the death of Maxwell Gruver. LSU President F. King Alexander said the death is being investigated as possible hazing.
According to the organization’s statement, the investigation uncovered enough information to conclude that some chapter members were in violation of risk management policies including the alcohol-free housing policy.
“We continue to keep the Gruver family in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time,” said Bob Biggs, the executive vice president and CEO for Phi Delta Theta, in a press release. “This is a very tragic situation that should have never happened.”
The fraternity will continue its internal investigation in order to hold all those who violated policies responsible, according to a press release. The fraternity will be reviewing its health and safety policies to prevent similar situations in the future.
“This tragedy furthers our belief that one of the biggest problems on college campuses today is the abuse and misuse of alcohol,” Biggs said in the release.
