BATON ROUGE- A Phi Delta Theta pledge student passed away after being transported to a hospital last night.
Maxwell Gruver was transported from the Phi Delta Theta fraternity house to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital earlier yesterday morning where he was pronounced dead.
Hospital officials said alcohol may have contributed to his death. When the teen arrived at the hospital, his blood alcohol level was around .480%, well over the legal limit. But the coroner’s office has yet to confirm an official cause of death.
“We will be conducting an autopsy tomorrow to determine the cause of death,” the coroner’s office stated.
“We should have pulmonary findings by lunchtime.”
King Alexander said local authorities suspect hazing was involved in the pledge’s death. The university took precautions to ensure that such an incident will never occur again. As of now all Greek related activities are suspended indefinitely.
This investigation is still ongoing.
