Political consultant and University alumnus James Carville will be joining the Manship School of Mass Communication faculty in January, according to a recent University news release.
Carville will be teaching in the political communication concentration. He will be leading a seminar in contemporary political issues, and he will teach a class for seniors examining one significant issue, like the Louisiana coastline erosion. His work will be funded by philanthropic gifts, said Manship School of Mass Communication Dean Jerry Ceppos.
Carville is notable for being former President Bill Clinton’s senior political adviser in 1992. Additionally, he has run campaigns in more than 23 countries.
Carville has taught at Tulane University in New Orleans for nine years. He is a graduate of both the University and the LSU Law Center. He has a long association with the Manship School, and is a Manship School’s Hall of Fame member. He was the Manship School commencement speaker in 2015, where he pleaded for more state support for the flagship school.
He is a best-selling author of “All’s Fair: Love, War and Running for President,” written with his wife, Mary Matalin, a Republican strategist who worked for former President George H.W. Bush, former President George W. Bush and former Vice President Dick Cheney.
“James epitomizes the mission of the Manship School,” Ceppos said in the news release. “That mission is to teach and conduct research at the intersection of media and public affairs. James is a living example of that intersection.”
