The LSU women’s soccer team defeated the Lamar University Cardinals 2-0 despite having the home-opener moved up by two days due to weather issues regarding looming threat of hurricane Harvey.
“If we hadn’t played, we would have gone 11 days without a game,” Head Coach Brian Lee said.
The Lady Tigers played strong with standout performances from junior forward Alex Thomas and junior goalkeeper Caroline Brockmeier. Thomas scored a goal and an assist to give the Lady Tigers the win, and Brockmeier held the Cardinals back and finished the game with yet another clean sheet.
Lamar played physically and aggressively, but the Lady Tigers fought even hard to come out on top.
“It was great for the freshmen who haven’t played at the college level and seen how physical it is, especially in the SEC,” Junior Forward Alex Thomas said.
The Tigers’ next match will be in Washington DC against George Washington on August 31, 2017.
