On July 29, 41-year-old Sara Hernandez was fatally stabbed by her ex-boyfriend, who stayed with her body for hours before authorities arrived at the scene, according to a report by The Advocate. Miguel Angel Lopez, 42, was arrested Sunday in connection with her death, the report said.
Authorities were called to the 1300 block of Goodwood Drive around 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Hernandez’s body was discovered, and she had likely been dead for 10 to 14 hours before their arrival, according to authorities.
Following the tragic murder, members of the University’s Greek community set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for Hernandez’s funeral expenses.
Hernandez worked at several fraternity and sorority houses on the University’s campus, including Phi Gamma Delta, Sigma Nu, Kappa Delta and Tau Kappa Epsilon, according to the GoFundMe page.
“Her incredible work ethic, her devotion to family, and her beautiful smile inspired us all. Please help us help her family with her funeral expenses,” the GoFundMe page reads.
