On the corner of Lee and Burbank Drive, construction has been underway to expand the road due to frequent heavy traffic in the area.
But the construction has now been delayed due to the heavy rainfall caused by Tropical Storm Harvey.
The work on bridge and drainage are complete. However, construction workers cannot begin digging the road until after the rainfall is finished.
“Due to the rain we’ve had with Hurricane Harvey, we’re probably looking at a couple of weeks at that. Our scheduled completion date is mid-October, weather-permitting. It looks like it could get pushed depending on how much rain we get in the future,” worker Jay Bailey said.
The sod used on the site is now buried one to two feet deep.
Tropical Storm Harvey caused the ravine to rise six feet higher than normal. If the ravine continues to rise, it could flood the entire construction site, pushing the completion date further back.
The delay in construction could lead to heavier traffic at the already busy intersection.
“It’s just the rain. The rain has cleared our construction crews out till it stops and that’s the biggest hurtle,” Bailey said.
