Two Baton Rouge locals, Adam Shelton (first) and Dawine Bannett (second) describe how they decided to spend their day off in the midst of Tropical Storm Harvey.
The two men decided to spend their day fishing at BREC’s Burbank Park which endured some of the worst flooding during last year’s Baton Rouge floods.
Bennett said, “He called me up, I was asleep, asked me if I wanted to go fish and I said, ‘why not?'”
“You never know what you’re going to get on the other end of the line. I’ve been fishing my whole life, with my father and grandfather, and it was always a good, quality time. So out here on the bank is a good time to bring back old memories and just enjoy life,” said Shelton, “I have a poncho in the car just in case.”
Shelton said “I definitely know what it’s like to go through a flood, so I feel for those people going through it right now.”
“Try and get out there as fast as you can, save your water, help other people around you and come together. That’s all we can really do right now,” said Bennett.
