LSU President F. King Alexander detailed resources available for students affected by Tropical Storm Harvey and encouraged donations for students in Houston in a broadcast email sent on Aug. 30.
“Please allow me to extend my condolences to all of you who are suffering loss during these trying times,” Alexander said in the email. “We will help to get you through it, and once again, the LSU community will demonstrate its strength and resilience.”
For those impacted by the storm, the email stated the University had academic, counseling, finance, food and federal assistance resources available. He said each student’s college counselor serves as a primary point of contact. The University College can be contacted at 225-578-8281 for information on counselors.
Alexander highlighted the LSU Student Disaster Relief Fund for students affected by the storm. Tax-deductible contributions can be made by visiting www.lsufoundation.org/lsustudentrelieffund.
Alexander encouraged students to remember the generosity received from Texas A&M, who raised and donated money for those affected by the Baton Rouge flood in 2016. He said the University is seeking donations to help the Houston-area public University students. To make a contribution, visit www.lsufoundation.org/txunivdisasterrelief.
“By coming together to help each other, by staying strong, and by lifting each other up, we will again serve as an example to our state and nation of what it means to be a true community,” he said in the email. “We are Tigers, and we will prevail.”
