Comedic mentalist Sean Bott performed a free show sponsored by the University’s Student Activities Board in the LSU Student Union Theater Aug. 24.
“I get to connect with [people] and do some cool things with their emotions and with their minds,” Bott said. “That’s basically what I do. I also make people laugh.”
SAB President Tyler McMorris said committee chairs within the organization discovered Bott to be popular among other universities because of college tours.
“So we researched him and we found out he’s pretty legit,” McMorris said. “We wanted to get him to come to our ‘Welcome Back with SAB’ events week.”
Students were given the opportunity to volunteer and participate in the show. Communication disorders freshman Caroline Chenevert said she saw a flier in South Hall about Hypno Night and decided to go. When Bott asked for a volunteer from the crowd, Chenevert raised her hand and was invited to the stage.
“He asked me to hold my palm up to his,” Chenevert said. “And before I did that, I rolled a dice and rolled three numbers I remembered, and he put his hand to mine. And at the end, I was writing the numbers on my hand with my finger, and he was guessing them while he was turned around. He guessed them all right so he’s pretty good.”
McMorris said the SAB organization is part of Campus Life and uses student fees to fund programs on campus. He said the organization has more in store for the current semester, including Open Mic Night and movie nights.
“We’re always looking for new and innovative events,” McMorris said. “We have awesome students that are on committees that help out with planning these events.”
