LSU has handed out its last available basketball scholarship to power forward Kavell Bigby-Williams.
Bigby-Williams had originally committed to LSU following his visit in June, but the announcement was delayed following a report that stated he was under investigation for sexual assault in Wyoming.
The investigation has been closed, and ended with no charges filed.
“This is an issue we all take seriously and we made absolutely sure we did our due diligence before considering moving forward,” Wade said. “Kavell understands that and has made clear to me that he’s going to repay our confidence by representing LSU with his very best on and off the court.”
The Oregon transfer will redshirt this year before being eligible to compete in the 2018-2019 basketball season. 6-foot-11, 230 pound forward helped Oregon reach the Final Four last season, and logged one rebound and one block in 10 minutes in 77-76 loss against North Carolina – the eventual national champions.
“I am pleased to welcome Kavell to Baton Rouge,” coach Will Wade said in a press release. “He’s a very talented frontcourt player and a young man I know is going to work hard for us and make a tremendous impact once he’s eligible next season.”
The addition of Bigby-Williams satisfies LSU’s need for low-post players following the upcoming season. The Tigers will be losing three key big men to graduation and the exhaustion of their eligibility.
