Selena Gomez has been in the spotlight since she was 15 when she starred as Alex Russo, the beloved Disney Channel character from “Wizards of Waverly Place.”
Gomez is now 24 with a hectic schedule and a career that makes her personal life public. The latest news on Gomez’s life is her new boyfriend Abel Tesfaye, who famously goes by the moniker The Weeknd.
It came as quite a surprise to fans that Gomez had reentered the dating world, especially so soon after the cancellation of her Revival World Tour.
The tour was cancelled because of her anxiety and depression after being diagnosed with Lupus, which spurred a two-month stretch of social media silence. She occasionally posted a picture to Instagram about her new position with Coach or a photo with fans, but for the most part, fans were left concerned for her and her whereabouts.
Their questions were answered during the second week of January. Gomez announced she had been back in her Texas hometown, spending time with close friends and family — and apparently, The Weeknd.
Paparazzi captured photos of Gomez hugging The Weeknd. This came as a disappointment and was considered a bad move on Gomez’s part to fans of Bella Hadid, The Weeknd’s ex-girlfriend and Gomez’s former friend.
E! News claims Gomez overstepped her boundaries by dating The Weeknd only two months after his break up with Hadid.
But according to TMZ, Gomez and Hadid were never that close. However, they are a part of the same social circle — Taylor Swift’s squad — and Gomez is acquainted with Bella’s older sister, Gigi.
After their breakup, the two were famously seen together at the 2016 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, with Bella modeling and The Weeknd performing. Viewers called this the ultimate revenge, as the two crossed paths while Bella looked flawless in Victoria’s Secret gear.
Whether or not these two months have given Bella enough time to move on from The Weeknd, he is clearly over her.
With 2017 underway, Gomez announced she has a “secret project” in store for her fans in this new year. Although her relationship is not a secret, there seems to be many things coming for Selenators in 2017.
