After a season in which LSU’s women’s tennis team broke the program record for the best team ranking three separate times, the Lady Tigers open the season ranked No. 19.
LSU is coming off a season in which the Lady Tigers finished with a second-round NCAA tournament appearance.
Coming into the spring season, senior Joana Valle Costa said shefeels that the team’s chemistry is better than ever.
“I think this is our strongest season yet,” Valle Costa said.
Last season, the Lady Tigers broke a program record for best team ranking in school history, drawing a No. 13, No. 12 and the school’s first ever top-ten ranking at No. 9 last March.
Junior Ryann Foster starts the spring season ranked No. 83 in singles and with Valle Costa, they are ranked No. 27 in the country in doubles.
“We’ve focused more on doubles this season,” Foster said. “We’re more fit than last season.”
Foster said she thinks the team is more prepared coming into this season than they were last.
“We’ve focused on little things that come together to help the team,” Valle Costa said.
Foster has started the season with an 11-4 singles record in the fall. Foster and Valle Costa went 10-6 as a doubles team last season and are 3-0 so far this season.
LSU begins its spring season with a double-header against Northwestern St. and Southern at 4 p.m. at the LSU Tennis Complex.
