Essentially, an average couple is thrown a curveball when their doctor informs them that they are pregnant with triplets. Combining flashbacks with present day, the writers seek to explain how the characters came to be the way they are.
People aren’t perfect, despite what social media tells us about celebrities and other social icons. Rather, people are molded in their past. The actors in “This is Us” are beyond talented in their ability to evoke emotions you didn’t realize you had with each passing episode.
Mandy Moore, known from “A Walk to Remember” plays Rebecca Pearson, the mother of the triplets. She is married to Jack Pearson, played by Milo Ventimiglia from “Gilmore Girls.”
Each sibling struggles in their own unique and beautiful ways. It goes to show that no two people are the same, and everyone has their demons. Regardless of social status, gender, race or ethnicity, viewers are bound to find at least one character that pulls at your heartstrings.
Every episode has a theme or a purpose. Whether you struggle with work, your marriage, family, siblings or friends, there is or will be an episode about it. “This is Us” doesn’t seek to glamorize life. It seeks to reveal it.
The writers and directors know that life is messy and flawed, and it’s not as picture perfect as society leads you to believe. Their writers know that life happens in the details, and sometimes it isn’t pretty.
With celebrities, models and magazines always raising the perfection standard, it’s comforting to see a show that looks like you. It looks like it could be your own family or a family you know. It’s relatable.
Be sure to keep a tissue box at arm’s reach, because you never know when they’ll air the episode that hits a little too close to home. With a perfectly chosen cast, “This is Us” is a must-watch.
