Born Frederick Nathaniel Hibbert, “Toots” Hibbert is a reggae singer and songwriter from Jamaica. Best known as the leader of Toots & the Maytals. 
Hibbert was born in Clarendon Parish and grew up singing gospel in his church choir. He moved to Kingston in the 1960s and formed the Maytals with Raleigh Gordon and Jerry Mathias. The Maytals became one of the most popular vocal groups in Jamaica, working alongside Coxsone Dodd, Prince Buster, Byron Lee, and Leslie Kong. The Maytals were one of the firsts to use the term “reggae”. 
The lineup has changed over the years, but Toots Hibbert still performs his music live.
