This summer, the LSU women’s tennis team welcomed a junior transfer to the squad. The team might have been new to Kennan Johnson, but the school and city certainly wasn’t.
Johnson was born and raised in Baton Rouge and her mother played on the Tigers’ women’s tennis team as well.
Due to NCAA transfer rules, Johnson must redshirt this season and will be ineligible for competition. She is allowed to practice with the team. Despite not being able to compete, Johnson copes by cheering her teammates on and knowing she’s contributing with her voice.
Johnson’s voice is not exclusive to the tennis courts. She plays guitar, sings, and writes songs as well. She took one guitar lesson when she was young and fell in love; the rest was history and YouTube guitar tutorials.
Music is therapeutic for Johnson and she uses songwriting to get her feelings and emotions out on paper.
