In the world of jazz, Herbie Hancock is more than just a name and his music represents more than just notes on a page. Ever since he broke onto the music scene in the early 60s, Herbie has been one of the leading evolutionary (and at times revolutionary) forces in jazz, funk, fusion, and R&B. He was one of the first true pioneers of electronic music, incorporating analog and later digital synthesizers into jazz when many critics saw it as taboo. The result was the birth of his trademark jazz-funk fusion style. The peak of Herbie’s awe inspiring influence in the music industry coincided with his formation of The Headhunters in the early 70’s. Their first effort, “Head Hunters,” was the first jazz album ever to go platinum. By mid-decade they were performing in stadiums and had no fewer than four (4) albums on the pop charts at the same time. Largely driven by his musical genius and persistent stylistic innovation, Herbie’s rampant success continued through the 80’s, his far-reaching influence touching everything from hip-hop to disco. To this day Herbie Hancock makes new music and performs to sold out venues.
