ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” is back for another drama-filled season. Sneak peeks and promotional videos have been released, but today is the day. It’s premiere day, and it’s time to have a party.
Dedicated fans have waited with their latex gloves on and scalpels ready for the second half of the show’s 13th season.
The Daily Reveille is here with some tips to throw the ideal “Grey’s Anatomy” watch party.
1. Start a group text
Reach out to the procrastinator who will, no doubt, be thrilled to procrastinate for another hour. Contact the “study-o-holic” who probably hasn’t taken a mental health hour since the start of the semester. Initiate conversation with any and all “Grey’s Anatomy” fans because there is no greater bond than mutual love of a television series.
2. Bribe everyone with food
Last minute gatherings are the best gatherings. Call Hungry Howie’s for some cheap pizza, or go crazy and splurge on the deliciousness that is Mellow Mushroom.
One can always “surgically” prepare a meal with the proper materials. Scrub your hands in the sink, apply latex gloves and cut meat and veggies with your handy scalpel, or knife.
3. Nominate a host
It’d be best to nominate the friend with the most comfortable couch, or the biggest TV. Don’t diminish the experience by settling to sit on a brick of a couch or by staring at a blurry laptop screen.
4. Complain about Shonda Rhimes
It’s important to acknowledge the writer’s talent, but with that being said, sometimes your squad knows better.
At least one thing should bother you after watching over 12 seasons of the same series. Each time Meredith Grey entertains another male love interest, one might cry at the lack of respect Rhimes has for the “MerDer” love story.
Rhimes is disrespecting his untimely death. It’s okay to complain with one’s squad. In fact, it’s encouraged.
5. Discuss
Allot at least 30 minutes after the episode ends to deliberate. Weigh the positives, the negatives and whether or not the series should have ended at least three seasons ago. Maybe the episode was magical and beautifully written. Maybe it wasn’t.
Suppose everyone disagrees. Give people time to process and absorb.
6. Be grateful that Sandra Oh returned or be very sad that she didn’t
It is rumored that Cristina Yang, played by Sandra Oh, is returning for season 13 or appearing in a handful of episodes. Neither has been confirmed or denied by Rhimes, but it’s safe to say that fans will be crossing their fingers and hoping for a miracle.
If Yang appears, a separate party should be planned at a later date. It may be best to expect the worst and hope for the best.
