Former LSU baseball standout Todd Walker will become the fourth player in LSU baseball history to have his jersey retired on April 14, LSU announced on Thursday.
The LSU Hall of Fame committee unanimously approved the retirement of Walker’s jersey last May. The retirement ceremony will be prior to LSU’s game against Ole Miss.
Walker, who was inducted in the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009, played at LSU from 1992-94 and was a two-time first team All-American. The Bossier City, Louisiana native was also a part of the Tigers 1993 national championship team and earned College World Series Most Outstanding Player award.
“Todd Walker epitomizes the values that we promote at LSU,” said athletic director Joe Alleva. “He is in the College Baseball Hall of Fame, and his exploits as one of the greatest hitters in the history of the game are well-documented. What is even more impressive is his commitment to education, as he completed his LSU degree requirements while he was an active Major League player.”
Walker’s No. 12 jersey joins No. 36 worn by first baseman Eddy Furniss, No. 15 worn by coach Skip Bertman and No. 19 worn by pitcher Ben McDonald, as jerseys retired by LSU baseball.
