The LSU gymnastics team is looking to build off its season-opening win over No. 9 Georgia on Friday.
The Tigers finished with a score of 197.825, the best season-opening score in school history.
“We’re just working hard and being about the team and doing what’s best for the team,” said senior Ashleigh Gnat. “They [the freshmen] did a good job of coming in here and we saw that reflected in last Friday’s competition.”
Gnat is currently fifth in the nation in the all-around competition with a score of 39.525.
“I was very excited to compete for my first time,” said freshman Kennedi Edney. “I had a lot of adrenaline, but it was for a good cause.”
Edney had an impressive debut, finishing tied for first on vault with a score of 9.95.
“No. 1 feels good for any team,” said junior Myia Hambrick. “But this team in particular, all of us are hungry to win. You can’t let it get to your head.”
The Tigers travel to Tuscaloosa this Friday to take on No. 4 Alabama. Head coach D-D Breaux said her team will practice hard today, then have light days the rest of the week.
“They’re doing a tremendous job,” Breaux said. “Every day, they do everything we ask them to do in the gym and out of the gym. It’s ‘Geaux Tiger’ time every time they come in here.”
