LSU’s former Tiger Band Director Roy King has settled his lawsuit against the University, according to his attorney Jill Craft.
Craft confirmed that she filed a motion in federal court in April to dismiss the lawsuit, which was approved May 8 by Chief U.S. District Judge Brian Jackson.
“My client Roy King loves every single member of the Tiger Band,” Craft said. “He misses them all greatly, and he wants nothing but the best for each and every one of them,” she added.
LSU general counsel has not yet responded to a request for comment.
King filed a lawsuit against the University last May after he was fired on April 19, 2016, for various acts of misconduct, including distributing unapproved scholarships and allegedly misappropriating Tiger Band funds, according to a May 2016 report from the LSU Office of the Internal Audit.
“LSU terminated Roy King in 2016 after an internal investigation. LSU is very satisfied with the settlement of Mr. King’s lawsuit,” LSU Media Relations Director Ernie Ballard said in a statement.
King was the Tiger Band director for five of his 18 years at the University.
Assistant director of bands Dennis Llinás has replaced King as head band director after serving as interim band director in his absence.
