LSUPD Police Chief Maj. Lawrence Rabalais speaks to the press Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012 about the University's efforts to detain William Bouvay Jr., 42, after he made a bomb threat to LSU's campus on Monday.
LSUPD Chief Lawrence Rabalais announced earlier today that he is retiring, effective July 5.
In an email, Media Relations Director Ernie Ballard has said a search for a permanent successor and plans for the transition will begin in the near future.
Until an interim is named, Ballard also announced that Man. Bart Thompson will oversee administrative and operational matters relating to the LSUPD.
Named interim chief in 2009, Chief Rabalais was named permanent chief shortly after. He has been with LSUPD for 11 years.
