Freshmen Taylor Bannister and Raigen Cianciulli both earned AVCA South Region freshman honors on Tuesday following the team’s first NCAA tournament appearance since 2014.
Outside hitter Bannister collected the AVCA South Region Freshman of the Year award, becoming the second player in program history to receive the award and was named to the All-South Region first team.
Bannister will add these accomplishments with her multiple conference Freshman of the Week awards earned throughout the year and being selected to the All-SEC and All-Freshman teams.
“Taylor made a tremendous impact on our team,” coach Fran Flory said in a press release. “We are excited she is being recognized. She certainly has a bright future ahead of her. This is the first step of her career to be recognized nationally. We are looking forward to what she will bring in the future.”
Libero Cianciulli picked up an AVCA Honorable Mention All-South Region prestige. Cianciulli secured the back row for the Tigers all year long, gathering a total of 499 digs, ranking eighth-most in program history in a season. Cianciulli also finished fifth in the Southeastern Conference with digs per set with 4.46.
LSU’s season ended with a loss to No. 9 San Diego in the first round of NCAA Tournament. The Tigers finished with a 20-10 overall record, going 11-7 in conference play and finishing fourth in the SEC.
