Senior guard Alex Farrer will be seeing his first action of the season on senior night in the PMAC.
Farrer, who’s been sidelined with a knee injury for the entire season, will be in the starting lineup for LSU’s game against Georgia on Saturday.
“I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing, but it’s something I think I need to do from the standpoint that who we’re playing,” said LSU coach Trent Johnson. “[Georgia’s] physical, they’re athletic, strong.”
Farrer joins fellow senior Tasmin Mitchell in the senior night festivities. Johnson lauded Farrer for being unselfish and supporting the team in his absence.
“Alex has been nothing but the ultimate team guy,” Johnson said. “For me, whether I’m around seniors for four years or one year, it’s always hard.”
Farrer’s knee is not 100 percent though. After the injury, he opted for a quick-fix surgery to give him the chance to play this year. Farrer will undergo more of a long-term fix operation after the season is done.
Johnson said even if Farrer is 75 or 80 percent healthy, what he brings to the team could be better than other guys at full strength.
“I’d rather start him and see how long he can go and how much help he can give us,” Johnson said. “That’s the bottom line. He’s still dragging his knee around. As frustrated as he is with wanting to play against Auburn and Ole Miss on the road, let’s face it, it doesn’t make a lot of sense. I think in the confines of home, if anything goes wrong, we have our medical people here. What he’s done against a zone defense and his ability to pass the ball at 75 or 80 percent is probably better than the guy that’s out there.”
