LSU’s baseball team defeated Tennessee, 6-2, on the road Friday night.
Junior pitcher Austin Ross went six innings for the Tigers, giving up two earned runs while striking out four and walking two on 91 pitches.
The LSU bullpen finished up the final three innings, giving up three hits and no runs.
Tennessee got on the board first in the bottom half of the second inning, but the Tigers responded with a two-run third inning thanks to a triple by left fielder Trey Watkins and an RBI single by second baseman Tyler Hanover, who finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBI.
The Vols added another run in the home half of the third, but another Hanover RBI single gave LSU the 3-2 lead in the fifth.
The Tigers got some insurance runs in the top of the ninth thanks in part to a two out, two-RBI double by Hanover to give LSU the final 6-2 lead.
Tennessee starter Bryan Morgado went 7 innings, giving up three runs on five hits while striking out a season-high 11 and walking four.
Although he got the loss, Morgado’s success against the Tigers is nothing new, as he got the save in the Vols’ 7-5 victory on April 18, 2009 in game two of a three game series last season. He pitched two innings in the game, giving up two hits while striking out four.
