LSU junior golfers Megan McChrystal and Andrew Loupe were recognized as the Southeastern Conference’s male and female golfers of the week after their performances in the Louisiana Classics tournament and the Tiger/Wave Classic last week.
Loupe and McChrystal have been the forerunners for LSU golf this spring. Each of them won their first tournament of the season last week and each have gotten their programs running after sluggish beginnings by both teams.
Loupe shot a career-low 54-hole score at the Louisiana Classics tournament in Lafayette. He shot back-to-back 5-under par 67s to close out the tournament and finish one stroke ahead of Illinois’ junior Scott Langley, the No. 15 player in the nation according to Golfweek.com.
The tournament victory was Loupe’s first of his impressive career at LSU, and moved him up to No. 34 on Golfweek.com’s individual rankings.
McChrystal sank a 20-foot birdie putt on the 54th hole to secure her third collegiate victory. After shooting an even-par 72 on the first two days of the Tiger/Wave Classic, McChrystal screamed up the leaderboard with a 3-under 69 on the final day.
Her performance moved her to No. 22 on Golfweek.com’s individual rankings, and also garnered her Golfweek.com’s women’s national player of the week honors.
