The LSU track and field team dipped into the international pool to nab three junior college standouts for their 2010 recruiting class, and also signed prep jumper Lynnika Pitts of Prairieville, La.
The Tigers will add jumper Kyron Blaise of Toco, Trinidad and Tobago and sprinter Riker Hylton of Linstead, Jamaica to their ranks next season.
Blaise is regarded as one of the best junior college jumpers after being crowned as the 2009 NJCAA National Champion in the triple jump during his freshman season.
Hylton also comes to the Tigers with a junior college national championship, winning the 2010 NJCAA national championship in the 400-meter dash.
St. Mary, Jamaica native Jonique Day will join the Lady Tigers to run the 400-meter and 800-meter events next season. Day was a two-time NJCAA All-American.
The athletes join eight signings from February to form a strong 2010 class of 12 student-athletes.
“We feel like the 12 recruits we have signed to this point are as deep and as talented as any group we have signed in recent years,” LSU coach Dennis Shaver said in a news release.
