LSU junior catcher Micah Gibbs has been named to the 2010 Johnny Bench Award Watch List, the LSU Athletic Department announced Wednesday in a news release.
Gibbs is one of 53 catchers on the list. The Bench Award is given annually to the nation’s top Division I catcher.
The Pflugerville, Texas native is batting .385 through seven games with two home runs and seven RBIs this season.
Gibbs was a 2010 preseason All-American after batting .294 with six home runs and 42 RBIs in 2009. He was named to the 2009 Rawlings NCAA Division I Gold Glove Team.
Former LSU catcher Brad Cresse won the Bench Award in 2000.
LSU (7-0) hosts Pepperdine on Thursday and Saturday and Brown on Friday and Sunday in a three-team, six-game series in Alex Box Stadium.
