Several LSU athletes dominated the competition in the first day of the LSU Relays at Bernie Moore Stadium in Baton Rouge.
The Tiger long jumpers were in top form. Junior Zedric Thomas and freshman Demar Forbes tied for second and senior Will Coppage finished fourth. Former LSU standout Jeremy Hicks had the best jump of the day, a 25-foot, 3.5-inch jump.
Thomas and Forbes each set new personal records for outdoor long jumps, with matching 25-foot, 2-inch jumps. Sophomore hurdler Barrett Nugent had the top preliminary time in the 110-meter hurdles by more than a half second, and sophomore distance runner Richard Chautin ran the top time in the 5000-meter run for the Tigers.
The Lady Tigers showed they were a notch above the rest in the 100-meter run preliminaries. Senior All-American Samantha Henry led the pack with a time of 11.40 seconds, and the Lady Tigers finished with seven of the top nine spots.
The Lady Tigers also claimed the top spots in the high jump, the long jump, the 4×100-meter relay and the 1600-meter sprint medley.
