LSU senior forward Tasmin Mitchell received second-team All-Southeastern Conference honors Tuesday as voted by league coaches.
The award further cements Mitchell’s legacy in LSU basketball lore, as he will leave LSU as the third-leading scorer in team history and the all-time leader in minutes played, games played and games started.
Mitchell will try to achieve another milestone in the SEC tournament Thursday against Tennessee, as the Denham Springs native is just 21 points shy of 2,000 career points. Mitchell averages 17.0 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game this season.
The senior’s other career awards are the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2006 and first-team All-SEC in 2009.
Other SEC basketball awards announced Tuesday are the Coach of the Year, won by Vanderbilt’s Kevin Stallings, the Player of the Year, given to Kentucky point guard John Wall, and the Freshman of the Year, who was Kentucky center/forward DeMarcus Cousins.
Florida’s Ray Shipman earned SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Jarvis Varnado of Mississippi State won SEC Defensive Player of the Year for the third year in a row and Vanderbilt’s John Jenkins was honored as the Sixth Man of the Year.
