Students are rushing to the UREC Student Recreation Complex as Spring Break approaches to work off the last of their extra winter pounds for confidence during swimsuit season.People who already work out regularly are increasing the frequency.Megan Williams, international studies sophomore, said she works out every day, but has worked out for longer each day lately.”When I started out, I wanted to look better,” Williams said. “But I really do feel better. It gives you a level of confidence on the beach.”Williams said she is also preparing for a lot of beach time this summer. She will be spending tie in both Nicaragua and Florida.Trey Prejean, construction management freshman, said he works out every week, but is trying to swim, play basketball and do cardio in preparation for Spring Break at Grand Isle.Students are also working out in pairs to keep one another motivated in their exercises.Anna Ruiz, elemetary education junior, and Becca Thompson, accounting junior, said they usually work out once or twice a week. But they have increased to three times a week before a vacation to Gulf Shores, Ala.”I am working out so I don’t look like a beached whale,” Thompson said.Ruiz said she gave up fried foods for Lent. She is working out to make up for the fried food she plans on eating after Spring Break.Morgan McGuiness, business freshman, and Adrianne Fultz, mass communications sophmore, also said they work out together.McGuiness and Fultz said they normally work out about four times a week. They have pushed their work outs to two-a-days before they got to Gulf Shores.”It just helps you feel better,” McGuiness said. The push to the gym is not ony felt on campus, but also around Baton Rouge.”This is our busy season,” said Didi Rozas, Director of Spectrum Fitness Club, another popular gym for LSU students.Spectrum had a March Party to begin the season in preparation for the rush. The club also offers boot camps for those really serious about being in shape for swimsuit season, Rozas said.”In eight weeks, they can see an inch or two come off,” Rozas said. The activity in the facility will not begin to wane until July, Rozas said. She said it only slows down then because people start to go on vacation.Melissa Longino, associate director of University Recreation, said UREC advocates working out frequently as part of a healthy lifestyle. Quick fixes are not usually effective.
