NEW ORLEANS (AP) — For the first time in franchise history, the New Orleans Hornets have two players receiving NBA all-rookie team honors for the same season.
Point guard Darren Collison has been named to the all-rookie first team and shooting guard Marcus Thornton, a former LSU standout, has garnered second-team honors.
Friday’s announcement also marks the first time a Hornets rookie has received such an honor since Chris Paul was rookie of the year for the 2005-06 season.
Collison, who finished fourth in the rookie of the year voting, started 37 games that Paul missed because of injuries. He averaged 18.8 points, 9.1 assists and 3.5 rebounds in those starts.
Thornton, the 2009 Southeastern Conference Player of the Year, averaged 14.5 points and 2.9 rebounds and scored 20 or more points in a game 21 times.
