This season’s track and field team has had some standout athletes who have exhibited numerous note-worthy performances.
At big events such as the Raleigh Relays, Duke Invitational and Murray Neely Invitational at North Carolina A&T the team stood out in events such as the discus throw, shot put, high jump, sprints and long distance events. Lawanda Henry had two first place finishes and a second place finish in shot put. Men’s shot-putter Jason Jones also took first place at the Duke Invitational. Reggie Reese, Ryan Hill, and Brittany McCain also had first place finishes, Reese in the 100m dash, Hill in the 1500m, and McCain in the discus throw. Emily Pritt, Paige Eley, Taylor Graham, and Kris Kornegay-Gober had second place finished in their respective events. At the ACC Outdoor Championship both Hill and Henry won an ACC title. Hill’s performance in the 10,000m run not only earned him an ACC title, but his time was also the ninth fastest in school history. Hill also holds the school record in the 1500m with a time of 3:40.81. Several others placed high in their events, including John Martinez and Kara McKenna, who were named All-ACC performers.
Along with top finishes, the team has had many members finish in the top 20 at every competition. While several individuals displayed top performances, oftentimes they have come from the same athletes, and the team has not performed at that level.
