Former LSU coach Skip Bertman and second baseman Todd Walker have been named to the College World Series Legends Team, the NCAA and College World Series, Inc., announced Thursday.
Walker played for the Tigers from 1992-1994. The former All-American was named Most Outstanding Player of the ’93 College World Series, batting .350 with three home runs and 12 RBI.
During LSU’s national championship run that year, Walker hit a grand slam against Texas A&M in the second round of the Series, hit the walk-off, game-winning single against Long Beach State in the semifinal and hit two home runs against Wichita State in the championship game.
Bertman won five national championships at LSU, taking the title in ’91, ’93, ’96, ’97 and ’00. During Bertman’s tenure, LSU made it to Omaha 11 times in 18 years.
Fans cast more than 100,000 votes to select the 28 members of the team out of a list of 95 nominees. The selection of the team commemorates the final College World Series held in Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium.
