LSU outlasted William and Mary, 10-9, on Saturday in a game of multiple phases.
For the first four innings, it looked like a tight game. And for the next two and a half innings, it looked like a blowout – for William and Mary.
Going into the bottom of the sixth inning, William and Mary (3-1) led the Tigers, 8-0, before LSU’s offense blew the game wide open.
LSU (5-0) had eight runs in the sixth inning and two in the seventh, while the Tribe earned only one more run thanks to a brilliant performance by junior pitcher Mitch Mormann, who allowed one earned run from three hits in his three innings at the mound.
Mormann (1-0) was credited with the win, while sophomore pitcher Matty Ott got the save.
The two teams face off again tomorrow at 1 p.m. in a doubleheader. The second game will follow one hour after the first.
