The No. 16 LSU softball team took care of Jacksonville State, 5-1, to finish the Tiger Invitational undefeated.
Freshman catcher Lauren Houston’s base hit to right field scored sophomore left fielder Ashley Langoni in the second inning to put LSU (13-4) ahead, 1-0.
A solo home run by the Gamecocks (4-4) knotted the game at one in the third inning.
But the Tigers responded, scoring four runs in the fifth inning. Junior Ashley Applegate smacked a base hit to center field, scoring junior Tiffany Shaw, who pinch ran for Houston. Applegate came all the way home after a throwing error sailed deep into center field.
Sophomore second baseman Courtney Hollier hit a RBI single to shortstop, and a throwing error brought in a second run, giving the Tigers a 5-1 lead. The Gamecocks had three errors in the inning.
Senior pitcher Cody Trahan (3-0) went the distance for the win, firing 10 strikeouts and giving up one earned run.
