Freshman catcher Lauren Houston recorded two hits, including her first as a Tiger, as LSU took care of Jacksonville State, 4-1, on Day 2 of the Tiger Invitational.
Houston’s first career hit came in the second inning while her RBI single was in the sixth.
Freshman pitcher Rachele Fico (4-2) threw a complete game one-hitter, giving up one run and striking out 10 batters.
The Tigers (11-4) scored in the first inning on sophomore first baseman Anissa Young’s RBI double to right-center field.
Fico had thoughts of a perfect game shattered in the top of the fifth when Gamecocks’ (3-3) catcher Kaycee Crow tied the game at one, launching a solo home run to left field.
Houston’s sixth-inning RBI single gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead, and senior center fielder Kirsten Shortridge put the game away with a two-run double, increasing LSU’s lead to 4-1.
