The LSU women’s tennis team finished up its fall season with a rough outing at the Wake Forest Invitational.
All seven of the Lady Tigers fell in Friday’s singles action against North Carolina State. Five of the matches were straight set victories for the Wolfpack, while Tigers Ariel Morton and Ebie Wilson retired.
In doubles action, LSU tilted the scales in its direction, winning two of the three matches against Furman. Whitney Wolf and Yvette Vlaar topped Monica Arguello and Margaret Boyette 8-5, and Ebie Wilson and Kylie Adamek bested Olivia Maurice and Jenny Porter 8-4.
“I was very impressed with doubles [Friday],” LSU coach Tony Minnis. “We have worked really hard on doubles in practice.”
Saturday was another tough afternoon for LSU.
None of the six doubles teams managed to get a win against teams from host Wake Forest and North Carolina State.
Two Lady Tigers- Wolf and Adamek- earned straight set victories in Sunday’s singles competition against Furman.
Wolf beat Arguello 6-4, 6-4, and Adamek took down Jenny Porter by the same score.
LSU’s Kaitlin Burns, Morton and Vlaar all forced a third set, but were unable to earn a win Sunday.
Wake Forest sophomore Kathryn Talbert was the overall winner for the weekend. The N.C. native racked up 16 points just clipping North Carolina State’s Sandhya Nagaraj who had 15 points.
Wolf led LSU with six points.
The weekend concludes the tournament season for Minnis’ squad. The Lady Tigers begin team play in January.
