Free food and a prime location in the Live Oak Lounge drew in more students than previously at Student Government’s Straight Talk with SG event Tuesday.
Many of the students who asked SG President J Hudson, Vice President Dani Borel or one of their staff members questions wanted parking problems solved.
Aaron Wascom, electrical engineering sophomore, asked Borel about the faculty parking spaces that have taken the place of student parking in the lot by the LSU AgCenter that never seem to fill up.
“[Gary Graham, director of the Office of Parking, Traffic and Transportation] told us that they’ve closed some faculty lots on campus so they opened that up,” Borel said.
Borel said Graham told them more faculty lots will be closed in December, so those faculty spaces should start filling up then.
“I’ve had to pay for parking because I couldn’t find a space,” said Alyssa Brownell, elementary education freshman, who lives on campus.
Hudson and Borel repeatedly reminded all students who asked about parking of the new parking garage that is planned to be built across Highland Road from the Student Union.
“Parking is probably the biggest sore spot for students on campus,” Borel said.
A couple students wanted to know about dead week violations, and Hudson told them to pick up a violation form in the SG office.
Hudson said not many people had submitted dead week violation forms, but he was expecting more next week.
Grady Derheim, agribusiness finance junior, was upset that the library isn’t open for longer.
“Are students using the library for books at 2 a.m., or are they using it as a place to study?” said Thomas Rodgers, SG assistant director of academics. “So maybe we should make a new place to study on campus.”
