In 2009, Susan Boyle skyrocketed to fame via the British talent show “Britain’s Got Talent” when she performed a rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” that gave the entire world goosebumps. Two albums later and the nearly forgotten goosebumps from that epic performance do little to offset the mediocrity of “The Gift.” Boyle’s sophomore album is a collection of Christmas standards with a few strange and unrelated covers like Crowded House’s “Don’t Dream It’s Over.” The album does have some pleasant moments, but they’re easy to miss amid the struggle to stay awake and listen.
