LSU senior linebacker Kelvin Sheppard earned Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors after his performance against Alabama. Sheppard had his second career interception and a fumble recovery to go with seven tackles.
Senior defensive tackle Drake Nevis was named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week on Monday for the fourth time this season following his recognition Sunday as the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week. Nevis forced a fumble of Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy on Saturday and had seven tackles and a sack.
LSU (8-1, 5-1) shot up five spots No. 5 in the latest BCS standings and is the highest-ranked team with one loss, as LSU is coming off a 24-21 victory against Alabama. LSU hosts Louisiana-Monroe in its next contest Nov. 13 on homecoming weekend. The game is at 6 p.m. on TigerVision.
