LSU junior cornerback Patrick Peterson is one of 10 semifinalists for the Thorpe Award for the best defensive back in college football, the Thorpe Award screening committee announced Tuesday.
Peterson has started all eight games at cornerback for LSU this season with 20 tackles, two interceptions, one quarterback hurry and a blocked field goal. He has also made an impact on special teams, as he leads the Southeastern Conference in punt returns (19.7 yards per return and two touchdowns) and ranks No. 2 in the league in kickoff returns (27.5 yards per return).
Alabama junior defensive back Mark Barron was also named as a semifinalist from the SEC.
